The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships
Welcome! The mission of our office is to provide access to postsecondary education by rewarding academic achievement and by reducing the financial barriers that would otherwise prevent students from attending the University of Nevada, Reno. We administer programs of merit aid-scholarships, and need-based aid–
grants, loans, and work-study. The diversity and individuality of our student body is an important consideration in the varied programs of assistance and services we offer.
This site is your information highway into the mystifying world of financial aid and your survival guide to navigating the many paths. At the end is the financial assistance you need and want, whether that is a grant, scholarship, loan, or Work-Study employment. Use it to answer questions, inform, find links,
understand the process and procedures, do searches, meet deadlines, or explore what the University has to offer. Enjoy the ride!
What's New?
- Last date to submit a loan activation form for 07/08 will be May 7, 2008!!!
- Need additional funding?
Parents of dependent students are able to borrow additional funds that the student can use toward UNR expenses. The PLUS loan allows a parent to borrow up to the student cost of attendance (minus other aid). We do not include PLUS on the offer letter, but you can review our website for
additional information. You must complete the PLUS loan activation form (submit the LAF to UNR) and be approved by the lender to receive the funding. If a PLUS loan is denied by the bank, the student could be eligible for additional loan funds.
- How much does it cost to attend? What is the academic year student budget?

- Are you asking…I did my 08/09 FAFSA, now what?
Beginning in April the office will notify eligible students, on a rolling basis by e-mail, when a Financial Aid Offer Letter is available to view and print on ePAWS. ePAWS is a University website that allows students to access their personal and academic information.
The e-mail is sent to the official University e-mail account and may be forwarded to a personal e-mail account. New students should activate their University assigned e-mail account as soon as they are admitted.
A postcard is also mailed with login instructions for ePAWS and retrieving the Offer Letter. Students must select the appropriate year, click on “I accept the risk”, then go to Financial Aid Offer Letter.
An ePAWS tutorial is available.
Entering students should be advised that financial aid is not offered until the student has been admitted to the University as a “regular” student––that is admitted to a program and pursuing a degree.
- It's time to complete your 2008-2009 FAFSA now!
We recommend students to complete their FAFSAs now for the next year. Financial aid is awarded on a first come, first serve basis to need-eligible students.
To fill out the FAFSA online, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov.
To view and print the FAFSA in English or Spanish, go to http://fsa.ed.gov/fafsa/fafsa_options.html.
- The Native American Alumni Scholarship Application is now available.
Students qualifying for this scholarship will find the application as part of the Nevada Alumni Scholarship Application. Just check the Native American Alumni box, enter your tribal information and complete the application. We have extended the deadline beyond February 1st, so be sure to fill it out if you are
eligible.
